About the System
Rapido Realismo Kali International (RRKI) is a Filipino fighting system officially christened on April 1997 by Grandmaster Henry Espera. It is a Filipino self defense system with traditional roots adapted for modern times. The name of the system is a combination of two Filipino adapted words from the Spanish language: Rapido which means fast; and Realismo which refers to concern for fact or reality; or the rejection of the impractical. Rapido Realismo Kali is an art designed to utilize the human body's natural reaction to aggression as starting point for self defense techniques.
Rapido Realismo Kali is a comprehensive blade-oriented combative art consisting of the RRK Weapons System which deals with the use of, and defense against, weapons; and Sabakan, which is the official Rapido Realismo Kali Unarmed Combat System. RRK strongly advocates the use of lethal, efficient, and street effective techniques in combat, preserving the way how our ancestors originally practiced Kali - as a way to defend themselves and their loved ones.
As a street defense realist, Punong Guro Henry Espera developed this Filipino fighting system with techniques for self-preservation in mind - as far removed from modern sport-oriented martial arts as possible. Do not expect flashy moves here - Rapido Realismo Kali is all about survival. We train our students to nullify opponents fast and hard, to take the assailant down efficiently - using techniques that expend the least amount of energy - because chances are, he's not alone - and you'll still have to deal with his lackeys.
Punong Guro Espera strongly believes in one-on-one training. This has been done by the great masters of old to impart knowledge and skills to their students. This way, each student is properly guided and supervised as he trains. This method of teaching ensures that the smallest of nuances in the techniques are properly inculcated. Every student training in RRK gets the same initial lessons but is encouraged to add his own "flavor" once he gets the basic techniques down. Each student is free to explore, add his own techniques as he sees fit, and develop his own personal fighting style in accordance with Rapido Realismo Kali's general principles.
